Set up in 2013 by Bev Stephenson in Newcastle upon Tyne, North specialises in seasonal, luxury chocolate bars from the classic to the unusual. All are vegetarian, 99% are gluten free and the majority of our dark bars and all of our Oat bars are dairy free and suitable for vegans.
We use only the the finest couverture – which means less of the bad stuff (that’ll be the sugar), absolutely no vegetable fats and simply more of the good stuff – ethically sourced cocoa and cocoa butter. We’re proud to use 100% Sustainable Cocoa products, including single origin beans from Madagascar, Brazil and Colombia and support the CocoaHorizons Foundation - an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to sustainable cocoa with a core mission to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities.
All of our wrappers and foils are made from recyclable material; the majority of our clear bags are made from ‘NatureFlex’, a biodegradable and compostable material sourced from wood pulp from sustainably-managed plantations, however as it reacts with certain ingredients, the rest of our clear bags are made from High-Density Polyethylene which is widely recyclable. We also reuse boxes and packaging material whenever we can - aiming to keep it in the system rather than landfill and, whilst we’re not perfect, we do our best and try to improve wherever we can to keep this planet spinning!
Our bars have nabbed a few awards along the way including a Quality Food Commendation for our Liquorice & Blackcurrant and Best in Show for our Ginger & Fennel bars. We were also delighted to be awarded Artisan Business of the Year in the Newcastle Business Awards in 2015 and in 2019 we were named 'Fenwick Food Hero - Artisan Producer of the Year' which resulted in 4 window displays in the Newcastle upon Tyne store. We were cock-a-hoop!
